Welcome back to
“Irresistible Communication”.
2
:Two minutes, twice a week.
3
:No nonsense advice on
leadership communication.
4
:During our latest family vacation,
we stayed at what must be the world
5
:champions of managed dissatisfaction.
6
:The resort managed to do slightly
less than you'd expect at every single
7
:interaction and they made sure to never
even accidentally exceed our expectations.
8
:To be sure it wasn't a
bad experience per se.
9
:Apparently their strategy of consistently
delivering just enough to avoid outright
10
:dissatisfaction, but never enough to truly
impress, maintains a steady stream of just
11
:okay service without the extra effort or
resources for exceptional experiences.
12
:That's what it was: An okay,
but not a great experience.
13
:Let's look at what this means for
communication, where there's a similarly
14
:stark contrast between doing just
enough to get your point across and
15
:making an effort to truly connect
enlighten, or engage with the audience.
16
:For instance, you can choose to
provide just enough information
17
:to avoid misunderstandings.
18
:Or you can make it easily
digestible and engaging.
19
:You can respond to questions when raised.
20
:Or you can proactively clarify
ambiguities and offer insights.
21
:You can make minor adjustments to
content for different audiences.
22
:Or you can tailor it specifically
to each audience's needs.
23
:You can engage with your audience
just enough so that they don't feel
24
:ignored or you can strive to make
interactions enjoyable and memorable.
25
:Both in customer service and
communication, there's a choice between
26
:doing the bare minimum and going the
extra mile to leave a lasting impression.
27
:While the strategy of managed
dissatisfaction might save effort
28
:in the short term, it misses the
opportunity to create meaningful
29
:connections and memorable experiences.
30
:How do you choose?
31
:Keep lighting the path and
