How to avoid making yourself the bottleneck of decision making in your team.
Transcript
So, what should we do about it?
Speaker:Martin asks and looks firmly at you.
Speaker:Suddenly all eyes are on you.
Speaker:Because it's a crucial phase of the project.
Speaker:The team is proud of the first prototype that they've built.
Speaker:But there are still a lot of things to sort out and quite a few ideas down
Speaker:the road that want to get implemented.
Speaker:Martins issue is a particularly tricky one.
Speaker:It's affected by a lot of parameters and in turn affects
Speaker:most of the other team members.
Speaker:You are the leader.
Speaker:And you're faced with a difficult decision.
Speaker:There are so many things to consider here.
Speaker:So many options to choose from.
Speaker:So many paths to follow.
Speaker:But which one should you choose?
Speaker:It gets worse because this is just for Martin's part.
Speaker:Lisa has basically the same question just for her domain.
Speaker:Sarah as well.
Speaker:Taylor and Kim too.
Speaker:This is when you realize you've made yourself the bottleneck of your team.
Speaker:By overseeing every decision so that the project remains focused on your
Speaker:common goal you've basically overwhelmed yourself with decisions, slowed down
Speaker:the team, and made yourself the root of quite some frustration in the team.
Speaker:This is why it's so important to light the path as a leader.
Speaker:When everyone walks along the same path in the same direction towards the
Speaker:same destination, you can trust your team with making the right decisions.
Speaker:For this to work, it's much more useful to ask them the right questions rather
Speaker:than pretending to have all the answers.
Speaker:Light them the path, but trust them to know how to walk the path!
